What we collect

When you submit a review, we collect the name you enter, your star rating, and your review text. This is displayed publicly alongside the business you reviewed once it's approved through moderation.

Like any website, our server automatically logs standard technical information (such as IP address and browser type) for every visit. We use this only for security and abuse prevention (for example, blocking spam), not for tracking, advertising, or sale to third parties.

We also keep a simple, first-party pageview count (which page, and roughly when) so we can tell whether the site is being found and used. This count is not tied to your IP address, name, or any other identifier — we only know that a page was viewed, not who viewed it.

What we don't collect

Big Island Trades does not require an account to browse or leave a review. We do not collect email addresses or payment information, use tracking cookies, track individual visitors across pages or visits, or use any third-party analytics service.

How review data is used

Submitted reviews are held for moderation before publishing. Once approved, your name, rating, and review text are shown publicly on that business's page. We never edit or rewrite the substance of a review — we only redact profanity or personal information, or reject it entirely if it violates our Terms & Review Policy.

Removal requests

If you'd like a review you submitted removed or corrected, contact us (below) and we'll handle it directly — no account or login is needed to make this request.

Hawaii data breach notice

In the unlikely event of a security breach affecting personal information as defined under Hawaii's data breach notification law (HRS Chapter 487N), we will notify affected individuals as required by that law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site grows. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above.
